Hailey Street Department

Hailey Street crews work hard in the winter with limited staff. We have a crew of seven (7) full-time and two (2) seasonal employees. Of those positions, this year Hailey has three (3) vacancies, meaning our crews are down 33%. We work all night during a storm, no matter if the storm falls on a weekend or on Christmas day.  On days when we haul snow, we bring in contract crews to get the job done.  A big snow event costs Hailey taxpayers around $20,000 to get all of the snow cleared out of downtown.

Maintenance of streets, paths, downtown sidewalks, drainage, public irrigation, signage, and other elements in the public right of way comprises 24% of the City’s FY 22/23 general fund budget.  The biggest operating portions of our Streets Division budget are snow plowing and chip sealing.
