West Meadow Road Closure
The West Meadow approach onto SH-75 will be intermittently closed 7:15AM - 8:45AM, Mon - Fri, due to highway traffic impacts of approximately 2000 vehicles per day from nearby Buttercup road construction.
This closure is to prevent side street traffic from entering onto the Highway and causing stop-and-go conditions north of the McKercher merge area due to highway vehicles yielding to the side street. This yielding prevents free flowing highway traffic and causes it to back up into the McKercher merge area, further deteriorating capacity in that already challenged location.
Side street traffic is encouraged to access the highway further south using one of several eastern side street approaches allowing it to dilute and mix in at a two lane area. This mixing in the two lane area spread over several blocks will help to facilitate the Highway traffic advancing more smoothly.
Also note, the signal timing at McKercher was adjusted last week and the green time for the highway was increased from 55 seconds per cycle to 90 seconds per cycle. This, in conjunction with the West Meadow revision, will hopefully improve highway delays over prior conditions. While we understand this will increase side street delays our hope is to dilute and distribute these throughout the grid in the two lane sections. Please bear with us as we attempt to balance the competing demands on this strained system. Ultimately, a more free flowing highway will result in improved levels of service for the community in general.
Due to the variability of traffic flow, measures of success will be difficult to confirm and traffic will remain congested throughout the remaining 6-8 week period planned for Buttercup construction. People are encouraged to consider off peak commutes if available. Thank you for your patience.
